2014 in review!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,300 times in 2014. If it were a cable car, it would take about 38 trips to carry that many people.

Paula Lyra is based in Brasil and blogs here.

Welcome!

My name is Mustafa Polat, and I am currently studying at Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT) PhD program at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.

I graduated with the highest rank (summa cum laude) from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey at the department of Foreign Language Education. Meanwhile, I started a minor diploma program at the department of Business Administration and completed it on ‘General Management’, which later shaped my MA thesis. Later on, I completed my MA at the same university in 2009 and wrote my thesis on “Conflict Management and Effective Communication Skills in Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language”. I studied the attitude and opinions of EFL learners in Turkey in terms of the integration of above-mentioned topics into EFL curriculum. I have presented my studies at various conferences so far. In the same year when I had my MA, I started a PhD program at Istanbul University took the comps exam; however, I decided to pursue my career in the USA and was awarded Fulbright Scholarship and came to the University of Arizona, where I am majoring in pedagogy and program administation and minoring in technology.

As for my teaching experience, I taught English for 6 years at various foundation universities in Turkey starting at TOBB University of Economics and Technology in Ankara, then at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul and finally at Ozyegin University in Istanbul. I taught various pre-faculty courses in writing and other skills.

Now, I have started this blog site to share my experience with my colleages and the ones interested about teaching, technology, Fulbright&Tucson-USA, Turkey and Apple products, especially iPhone as my personal interests.

I was born in Yozgat, Turkey and I lived for many years in Ankara and Istanbul. I am married to Özge Seçkin Polat with a lovely daughter whose name is İdil Öge Polat, about whom I will be posting, too!
